It’s been seven years since we started Otaku.
With that we’ve released our all-new look – Brand-new, innovative and functional. This makeover isn’t necessarily all for you guys, it’s partially for us as well. We want to thank everyone who’s stuck with us throughout the 5 years in business. We are having a ton of fun doing things on this website and we hope you guys are enjoying it as well.
Looking back, having worked as a traditional marketer in traditional MNC settings for the greater part of my professional career I was fascinated with the evolution of the traditional role of the marketer with the digital age – heralding blogging superstars like Seth Godin, Hugh MacLeod and Chris Borgan as my personal heroes. I love how Seth Godin referenced the term otaku, a term which I associate myself with due to my obsession with anime and Japanese culture growing up. A term that is aptly used to describe anyone with an obsession in something in something – be it anime, video gaming or, in the context of Otaku, the studio – online marketing and social media.
There’s a great quote from Seth Godin in a presentation over on TED on the term ‘Otaku’:
They have something I call otaku — it’s a great Japanese word. It describes the desire of someone who’s obsessed to say, drive across Tokyo to try a new ramen noodle place, because that’s what they do. They get obsessed with it. To make a product, to market an idea, to come up with any problem you want to solve that doesn’t have a constituency with an otaku, is almost impossible.
Our web site promotes the 21st century Otaku (us); experienced, informed, creative and obsessively passionate on all things digital. Our team has worked very hard on delivering an experience that communicates who we are and what we do, and we believe confidently that you will get exactly what you see.
If you have any question about our new site, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We look forward to hearing from you, and the opportunity to talk about how we can add value to your business or organisation in the future.
